As you will see in the photos this Thing has a excellent rust free body and shows no rust or rot in the usual spots on these cars. Everything on this 61K mile car is original other than the added seat material for a custom look. The VW Thing is a very popular classic that has been gaining traction in the market for the last few years. Is getting harder and harder to find an original piece as this.
1973 Volkswagen Thing.
The Type 181 is known as the Kurierwagen in Germany, a Trekker in the United Kingdom, the Thing in the United States (1973-74), the Safari in Mexico and South America, and Pescaccia in Italy.
This 2 wheel drive, 4 door convertible has removable doors, a folding windshield and drain holes in the floor so you could spray it out with a hose.
Power is provided by a 1600cc flat four engine, single carburetor with a 4 speed manual transmission. Canvas top, vinyl windows, seat belts and custom cloth interior round out the features on this minimalistic Volkswagen.
